I have lived long enough to know that they do not tell you everything.
They do not tell you that freedom is not just the breaking of chains; it is also the unlearning of captivity.
They never tell you that freedom comes with ghosts—that the past, though left behind, still lingers in the corners of your thoughts.
Now, even though I’m no longer bound, my eyes are blind to light. I am free, but my mind needs time to believe it.
